Flushing fuel filters on a car (BMW 5 Series E12)
Before partially disassembling the fuel system on a vehicle in order to flush the fuel filters, be sure to disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery and clean the outer surface of the fuel pump housing.
Remove the fuel pump cover and wash the mesh filter. Replace the gasket.
Clamp and disconnect the fuel supply hose from the fuel pump. Remove the fuel filter and wash it.
Unscrew the plug, take out the filter and wash it.
