BMW cars have a load-bearing body. The bottom, sides, roof and rear fenders are welded together. Therefore, major damage to the body can only be repaired at service stations.
The engine compartment hood, doors, trunk lid and front fenders are bolt-on and can be easily replaced. During installation, the gaps must be strictly maintained, otherwise, for example, the door will step or noise from the incoming air flow will occur. The gap must in any case be parallel, that is, the size of the gap along the entire length of the mating body parts must be the same. The permissible deviation from parallelism is 0.5 mm.
