Removal and installation the rear bumper (BMW 3 Series E30)

Removal

Loosen the bumper mounting bolts in the wheel arches on each side (arrow).



Open the luggage compartment. On each side, from the inside of the rear, unscrew the bolts "1" securing the bumper. The luggage compartment trim is not removed; there is a hole in the trim for the bolt. On the right side of the car, first remove the shelf for the emergency triangle.



Using a 13 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the bolts (arrow) from the bumper brackets on both sides of the car from below. An assistant should hold the bumper while doing this.



Carefully pull the bumper back with the help of an assistant.

Installation

Carefully, with the help of an assistant, place the bumper in a horizontal position and secure it with 2 bolts on the brackets, without tightening the bolts.

On each side, tighten the bolts securing the ends of the bumper into the wheel arches.

Tighten the bolts on each side of the luggage compartment.

Align the bumper and tighten all bumper mounting bolts.

Install a shelf for the emergency triangle in the luggage compartment.
