Control units and relays (BMW 3 Series E36)
Control units and relays are located in various places on BMW 3 Series vehicles.
1. Electric window relay, sliding roof panel
2. Crash sensor jumper
3. Parking ventilation relay
4. Headlight cleaning system relay
5. Relay for rear window cleaning system, windshield washer pump
6. Amplifier relay (radio receiver)
1. Jumper starter interlock relay
2. Windscreen wiper relay, stage I
3. Windscreen wiper relay, stage II
4. Unloading relay terminal 15
5. Unoccupied
A - in the electronics unit
1. Airbag control unit
2. Security alarm system (DWA)
3. Not busy
4. Not busy
5. Tempomat system control unit (speed control)
B - on the right side wall
1. ABS control unit including central locking system module.
2. Impact switch on the right front pillar.
Door lock heating relay
Temperature cut-off unit or daytime running light relay
Fog light relay
Control units in the engine compartment behind the battery stand
The sliding roof panel relay is in the roof, attached to the drive.
The windshield wiper and washer control unit is located in the driver's footwell.
Interior light relay - controlled via central locking system module.
The audio amplifier is located in the luggage compartment.
Petrol engines:
1 Lambda probe heating relay
2 Engine Management System Main Relay (OME)
3 Fuel pump relay
Diesel engines:
1 Fuel pump relay
2 Main relay of the engine management system (DDE)
3 Unoccupied

1. Electric window relay, sliding roof panel

Note: On vehicles equipped with air conditioning, relay 17 is located above relay 15.

- top - Automatic transmission control unit
- bottom - Digital electronic engine control unit (DME, Motronic)
Other relays and control units
The sliding roof panel relay is in the roof, attached to the drive.
The windshield wiper and washer control unit is located in the driver's footwell.
Interior light relay - controlled via central locking system module.
The audio amplifier is located in the luggage compartment.
