Headlight adjustment (BMW 3 Series E36)

Headlight adjustment is of great importance for ensuring traffic safety. Accurate headlight adjustment is only possible with a special adjustment device. Therefore, only where adjustment can be made and what conditions must be met are given here.

The tire pressure must be correct.

An unloaded vehicle must be loaded with a weight of 75 kg (1 person) on the driver's seat.

Fill the tank completely with fuel.

Place the car on a level surface.

Pump the front of the car vigorously several times to settle the suspension.

Set the headlight range adjuster on the instrument panel to "O".

Check that the headlights are correctly installed in relation to the engine compartment hood and front trim, see section "Removal and installation headlights".

The headlights are adjusted with the low beam headlights on. The beam tilt value for normal headlights is X = 10 cm at a distance of 10 m. For fog lights, X = 5 cm at a distance of 5 m.
