Fusible Links — General Information (BMW 3 Series E46)

Some circuits are protected by incorporating fuses into their electrical circuit. Fuses are typically used to protect circuits that are not equipped with fuses, such as the ignition circuit.

The fuse links on these models are similar to fuses in that their failure (melting) easily determined visually.

To replace the fuse link, first disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Remove the burnt link and install a new one in its place (can be purchased at a dealership or car accessories store). Before replacing the insert, be sure to try to determine the cause of the overload that caused its failure.
