Vehicle identification (BMW 3 Series E46)

During the production of cars, small changes in their design are constantly taking place, information about which is not always published. Catalogs and lists of spare parts are based on digital designations. To accurately identify the components installed on the car, you need the digital designations (codes) of the car.

When ordering spare parts, always provide the supplier with as much information as you know. Indicate the model, year of manufacture, as well as the chassis and engine registration numbers of your vehicle.

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is riveted to the left suspension strut support, in the front corner of the engine compartment and is visible through the windshield from the passenger seat. In addition, the identification number is stamped on the right suspension strut support in the engine compartment (see fig.).

The engine identification number is stamped on the side wall of the cylinder block, next to the oil dipstick (except for N42 engine) or on the front wall of the cylinder block, next to the cylinder head gasket (n42 engine).
