Maintenance and care activities for a vehicle temporarily in storage (BMW X5 E53)

If your car is temporarily in storage, you must:
  • conserve the exterior paintwork every 6 months (every 4 months for hot climates);
  • release the parking brake;
  • set the automatic transmission gear selector to position "P";
  • check the interior lighting conservation;
  • increase tire pressure to 3.5 bar;
  • turn off AB;
  • recharge the battery without disconnecting it from the vehicle's network every 6 weeks;
  • recharge the battery disconnected from the vehicle's network every 12 weeks;
  • charge the battery before using the vehicle;
  • replace brake fluid when parked for more than 6 months and before use;
  • change engine oil and oil filter after parking for more than 12 months;
  • check the concentration of antifreeze before starting operation;
  • check the service and parking brakes before starting operation;
  • turn on the air conditioner once a month for 10 minutes; if you use R 134a refrigerant, this may not be necessary.
