Checking the thickness of the driven clutch disc (BMW X5 E53)

The clutch is self-adjusting and does not require maintenance. The thickness of the clutch disc is measured with a special control gauge. Measurements must be taken every 80,000 km.

The clutch disc thickness should be checked in the following order. Place the car on a level surface (overpass). Remove the car stiffening plate, unscrew the two bolts and remove the clutch slave cylinder. Secure the hydraulic drive with a wire clamp to the body, do not disconnect the hydraulic system.

Insert the "Kalibr-BMW" (Fig. 2.54) into the hole from under the clutch drive slave cylinder and press it. The driven disk linings are considered worn if the red zone is visible on the gauge scale.
