Checking the thickness of the driven clutch disc (BMW 7 Series E38)

On models with M62 engine from 09.1996 onwards, checking the thickness of the clutch driven disc is not required.


1. Remove the clutch slave cylinder without disconnecting the pressure line from it (see chapter Manual gearbox and clutch).

2. Install special tool 21 2 080 so that the scale corresponding to this type of manual transmission is visible from below. Scale B designed for 4-cylinder engines without dual mass flywheel with manual transmission S5D 200G; scale D G designed for manual transmission S6S 420G and S6S 560G; scale B C – for 6-cylinder and 4-cylinder engines with manual transmission S5D 200G/250G/260Z/310Z/320Z.

3. Press the measuring device pin against the clutch release fork and read the disc wear readings.

4. If the red section (2) of the scale is visible, the driven clutch disc should be replaced. Section (1) indicates normal disc wear.
