- BMW measuring tool.
Replacement materials:
- Only if clutch wear is detected by inspection: clutch disc.
The clutch is automatically adjusted and requires no maintenance. Therefore, the wear of the clutch disc is not determined by the free play of the clutch pedal. The thickness of the clutch disc is determined by a special measuring tool in the dismantled state.
Note: If a special measuring tool is not available, the function of the clutch can be checked as follows. Engage 5th gear, start the engine with the clutch pedal depressed. Release the clutch pedal while depressing the accelerator pedal. If the engine does not stall, then the clutch disc is worn. This check should not be carried out frequently, as the clutch is subjected to heavy loads.
As part of the service, the thickness of the clutch disc must be checked every 80,000 km.
Lift and remove car lower casing of motor edema.
Remove the clutch slave cylinder from the gearbox housing by loosening the fasteners -arrows-. Do not disconnect the pipeline from the working cylinder.
Insert the BMW tester into the hole for the slave cylinder as shown in the figure and press in the direction of the white arrow. After that, read the scale reading -black arrow-; clutch friction linings must be replaced when the red area is reached on the scale.
