Checking the corrugated covers of the cardan shafts (BMW 5 Series E39)

Raise the car.

Examine covers "1" and adjacent parts for the absence of visible traces of oil.

If the cover is pulled inward due to vacuum at the hinge or is defective, it must be replaced immediately.

Check the reliability of fastening of clamps "2".

Using a lamp, examine the covers for porosity and cracks. Cracked hinge covers must be replaced immediately.
