Checking the engine oil level (BMW 7 Series E32)

            0

The engine oil level should be checked every 1000 km and, if necessary, topped up with oil. The engine should not consume more than 1 liter of oil per 1000 km. If the consumption exceeds this value, this indicates wear of the valve stem seals, piston rings or engine seals.

The car must be horizontal during measurements.

After turning off the engine, you must wait at least 3 minutes for the oil to drain into the crankcase.

Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean rag.

Then insert the dipstick into the guide tube until it stops. The oil level should be between the two marks.

Add fresh oil when the oil level approaches the lower mark. It takes about 1 liter of oil to raise the level from the lower mark to the upper mark. Oil is added through the filler neck on the valve cover.

Caution: Do not overfill the oil above the upper mark. Overfilling increases oil consumption and can damage the engine and catalytic converter.
