Higher oil consumption indicates worn valve stem seals and/or piston rings or seals.
The vehicle must be on level ground during the measurement.
After stopping the engine, wait at least 3 minutes for the oil to collect in the sump.
Remove the oil level indicator from the engine and wipe it with a clean cloth.
Then insert the oil level indicator into the engine until it stops and pull it out again. The oil level should be between the two marks on the dipstick.
Add fresh oil only when the oil level approaches the lower mark. For all types of engines, the difference in oil quantities between those and min marks on the oil level indicator is 1 liter.
Add oil through the pipe on the cylinder head cover. Top up only with the correct grade of oil, do not use any oil additives, see section "Lubrication system".
Attention: Do not allow the oil level in the sump to rise above the upper mark. This increases oil loss and, in addition, can lead to failure of the catalytic converter.
