Maintenance work — general information (BMW 5 Series E39)

This section describes the work that must be carried out in accordance with the maintenance chart on the various components of the vehicle. Where necessary, references are made to the necessary wearing parts and, if possible, to the special tools required to perform the work. It is recommended that the tyre pressure, as well as the fluid levels in the engine lubrication system, cooling system, windscreen and headlight lens cleaning and washing system, etc., be checked and topped up approximately every 4-6 weeks. Messages about low fluid levels and brake lining wear are displayed to the driver on the instrument panel.

Note: When purchasing replacement parts, you must always have the vehicle registration document with you, as precise information about the serial number or year of manufacture is often required for impeccable identification of the vehicle. To be completely sure that you are purchasing the appropriate part, it is recommended, if possible, to remove the old part and take it with you to the store that sells spare parts. There you can compare this part with the one you are purchasing as a replacement.
