The service corresponds to maintenance 1 for BMW vehicles. It must be carried out when the yellow LED lights up together with the message Inspaktion. Anyone who does not follow the indications of the service interval indicator must carry out the service every 20,000 km or at least once every 2 years. The maintenance work carried out after extended intervals corresponds to maintenance 2, described at the end of the section.

Engine and exhaust system



Interrogate the fault code memory.

Replace engine oil and oil filter.

Replace the air filter element (if there is a lot of dust, replace earlier, but not less than once every 2 years).

Poly V-belt: check condition.

Cooling and heating systems: check the concentration of antifreeze. Perform a visual check of the radiator for leaks and external contamination.

Exhaust system: Check for damage.

Engine: visual inspection of the lubrication system for leaks.

Fuel supply system: check the gasket, condition and tightness of hoses and pipes.

Diesel engine: Remove water from the fuel filter.

Clutch, gearbox, final drive



Clutch: Check hoses, pipes and connections for leaks.

Main gear: visually check for leaks.

Manual and automatic transmission: visually check for leaks.

Cardan shafts: check the joint covers for leaks and damage.

Front axle and steering



Tie rod ends and ball joints: Check dust caps.

Steering: check the clearance, check the bellows for leaks and damage. Check the steering column joint disc for damage

Power steering: check the fluid level, refilling the hydraulic fluid level if necessary. Check the steering gear, hydraulic pump, all pipes and connections for tightness.



Body, equipment



Door hinges: lubricate with universal lubricant.

Anti-corrosion protection of the underbody and protection of hidden cavities with anti-corrosion agents: check.

Seat belts: check for damage.

Heating and air conditioning systems: Replace the air cleaning microfilter.

Brakes, tires, wheels



Wheels: unscrew, check the condition of the rims (including the inside). Clean and lubricate wheel centering areas. Tighten wheel bolts to specified torque.

Set of tires: check the tread depth and pressure in the tires; check tires for wear and damage (including spare wheel).

Brake system: check the brake fluid level, check the thickness of the brake linings. Check the condition of the brake disc surfaces. When replacing the rear brake linings, simultaneously check the thickness of the parking (hand) brake linings.

Check and, if necessary, adjust the travel of the handbrake lever. Check the operation of the handbrake.

Brake system: check pipelines, hoses, brake cylinders and joints for leaks and damage. Top up the brake fluid level.

Electrical equipment system



Lighting system: check all headlights, taillights and turn signal lights, adjust main headlights if necessary.

Sound signal, heating and ventilation systems: check.

Windscreen wipers: check the rubber bands of the windscreen wiper blades for wear.

Windscreen and headlight washer system: check operation, check nozzle position, top up washer fluid level.

Battery: check the charge and electrolyte level.

Central locking system: replace the batteries of the remote control.



Additionally, every 40,000 km



Diesel engine: replace fuel filter.

Additionally, every 80,000 km



Manual transmission: change transmission fluid (ATF).

Final drive: replace hypoid oil.

Gasoline engine: Replace main fuel filter.

Clutch: check the thickness of the driven disc linings.

Every 2 years (regardless of the vehicle's mileage)



Brake system: replace brake fluid.

Every 3 years (regardless of the vehicle's mileage)



Cooling and heating system: replace coolant.
