3. At the same time, check the general condition of the CV joints by holding the shaft and trying to turn the wheel at the same time. Try again by holding the inner CV joint and turning the shaft. Any noticeable play indicates wear in the joint, wear in the shaft grooves, or a loose shaft lock nut.
