The parking brake system of vehicles with disc brakes on the front and rear wheels consists of separate drum brakes mounted on the rear wheels. Since the brake linings of the parking brake system in these models of vehicles practically do not wear out, it may happen that the brake drum begins to rust and the brake linings become covered with dirt. Therefore, before checking, it is recommended to perform the following steps.
On a street without traffic or in a parking lot at a speed of approximately 40 km/h, carefully apply the handbrake until the first signs of braking appear. Maintaining speed, apply the handbrake 1 more notch and drive approximately 400 m. Release the handbrake and let the brakes cool down.
Raise the car from behind.
Place the handbrake lever in the 5th locking groove. Turn both wheels by hand. Light braking action should be felt on the rear wheels.
Place the handbrake lever in the 6th locking groove. Now the rear wheels should turn by hand with a fairly large effort. If the handbrake must be tightened further until a perceptible braking effect is achieved, the parking brake system must be adjusted in accordance with the instructions in section "Brake system".
Lower the car.
