Checking the thickness of the driven clutch disc (BMW 7 Series E32)

            0

The clutch is self-adjusting and does not require maintenance. Therefore, the wear of the driven disk cannot be determined by the play (free running) clutch pedals. The thickness of the driven disk is measured in the installed state using a special control gauge.

Note: If you don't have a special device, you can check the clutch functionality as follows: engage fifth gear, start the engine with the clutch pedal pressed. Give it gas and release the clutch pedal. If the engine doesn't stall, this indicates that the clutch is worn out.

The clutch disc thickness must be checked according to the maintenance plan every 80 thousand km.

Raise and support the vehicle, remove the lower engine cover (mudguard).

Remove the clutch slave cylinder from the gearbox housing by unscrewing the two bolts (arrows). Do not disconnect the hydraulic line.

Insert the gauge into the hole of the working cylinder and press it in the direction shown by the white arrow.

Now determine the wear (thickness) on the scale (black arrow) on the side marked B+C. The clutch disc should be replaced when the red area is visible.
