Note: On vehicles with limited slip differential (expanded equipment range) high-grade oil must be poured in. High-grade oil can be poured into all differentials of the rear axle gearboxes.
The varieties approved by BMW are, for example:
- bMW Syntetik MSP rear axle gearbox oil,
- aral BS-LS transmission oil,
- Avia Hypoid 75W-90 LS,
- Castrol SAF-XLS, Shell MLS-BMW transmission oil,
- Veedol SAF 55.

Note: The oil is viscous, so do not pour too much oil at once. Take breaks and place a container underneath to collect the leaking oil.
Tighten the filler plug to a tightening torque of 55 Nm.
