Gearbox oil change should be performed within the framework of the maintenance schedule every 60,000 km. Within the framework of the maintenance schedule, an external inspection of the gearbox should be performed every 15,000 km, and the oil level should be checked if traces of oil are found. The oil level should reach the lower edge of the filler hole.
Before changing the oil, the gearbox must be warm, for this purpose take a 15-minute drive.
Raise the car.

Unscrew the oil filler plug "arrow" on the gearbox. It is located on the right or left side of the gearbox depending on its type. Place a container under the leaking oil.
Using a hex key, loosen the oil drain plug at the bottom of the gearbox.
Warning: Drain the oil into a container and then take it to a special waste collection point. Do not pour out the oil or throw it away with household garbage.
Tighten the drain plug to a tightening torque of 50 Nm.
The oil to be filled must be approved by BMW. These are mainly automatic transmission oils marked "Dexron II". An oiler or hose is required for filling. When topping up, place a container underneath to collect the leaking oil. Do not pour too much oil at one time.
Caution: Never fill the oil above the lower edge of the filler hole.
Tighten the filler plug to a tightening torque of 50 Nm.
Lower the car.
