Gearbox oil change (BMW 3 Series E46)

            0

Note: You may need new oil drain and fill plug seals during installation.

1. The oil should be drained from the gearbox when it is warmed up to operating temperature. To do this, you should drive about 30 km.

2. Immediately after this trip, park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. If necessary, lift the vehicle and support it on supports (see "Lifting and supporting the vehicle on supports"). The vehicle must be in a horizontal position. Remove the gearbox guard (if it exists).

3. Loosen the oil drain plug under the car and unscrew it half a turn (Fig. 3.3). Place a container under the plug and unscrew the plug completely. Try to unscrew the plug by pressing it against the gearbox.

3. Loosen the oil drain plug under the car and unscrew it half a turn (Fig. 3.3). Place a container…

After unscrewing the plug, remove it quickly so that the oil flows into the container and not into your sleeve.

4. Remove the seal from the plug (if it exists).

5. Place a new seal on the plug (if it exists), screw it in and tighten it to the required torque.

6. Unscrew the check/filler plug and remove the seal from the plug (if it exists).

7. Fill the oil through the hole with the required type and quantity of oil (see "Technical data" and "Lubricants and fluids"). The oil level should reach the edge of the filler hole.

8. Place a new seal on the plug (if it exists), screw it in and tighten it to the required torque.

9. Lower the car to the ground.
