Removal and installation rear brake pads (BMW 3 Series E21)
Removal
Raise the rear of the vehicle, place it on stands and remove the wheels.
Knock out the brake shoe retaining pins and remove the cross springs.

Remove the brake pads. If the pads are to be reused, mark the pads before removing them so that they can be reinstalled in their original positions.
Clean the guide surfaces and windows in the calipers.
Installation
Make sure the guide spring is installed correctly.
Install the outer brake shoe and carefully push the piston into the cylinder using a piece of hardwood.
Install the inner brake shoe, while simultaneously placing the cross spring and shoe retaining pins in place.
Press the brake pedal several times to set the pistons to the working position.
