Removal and installation brake shoes for drum brakes (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Remove the brake drum.

Remove the brake shoe pressure springs

Disconnect the lower and upper brake shoe tension springs.

Remove the brake pads from under the wheel cylinder.

Disconnect the parking brake cable end from the hand brake shoe lever and remove the brake shoes.

Installation

Attach the long end of the upper tension spring to the brake shoe release lever and the short end to the other brake shoe.

Connect the end of the parking brake cable to the hand brake shoe lever and install the brake shoes.

Attach the lower tension spring to the pads.

Install the brake shoe pressure springs.

Install the brake drum.
