Removal and installation the front wheel brake mechanism (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Raise the front of the car, place it on stands and remove the wheel.

Use a syringe to suck out the brake fluid from the hydraulic reservoir.

Unscrew the bolts securing the caliper to the steering knuckle. Unscrew the pipe union and disconnect the flexible hose from the line; plug the hose and tube holes. Remove the caliper.



When replacing a caliper, make sure that the new and used calipers are identical in brand. If both calipers are removed, when reinstalling them in their original locations, the brake bleed nipples on each caliper should be facing inward and upward.

Installation

The brake mechanism is installed in the reverse order of removal. After installation, fill the brake fluid into the hydraulic drive reservoir and bleed the hydraulic drive system to remove air.
