Instrumentation - Basics Instrumentation, such as the speedometer or fuel gauge, is concentrated on the instrument panel. If any instrument fails, the entire unit must be replaced, as it cannot be disassembled.
The instrument panel unit is controlled by a microprocessor and has a self-diagnosis system. If faults occur in the system elements, the corresponding codes are recorded in the fault memory of the control unit. These codes can be displayed using a special BMW device. In addition, the following functions can be adapted or adjusted using the device: fuel level indicator, fuel consumption indicator, service interval indicator, distance travelled counter.
