- The fault memory data in the engine control unit and other electronic control units are erased.
- The clock setting and computer data are lost.
- Re-initialization of the sliding roof panel is required, refer to Section Replacing the Cabin Air Filter Element.
Withdrawal
1. Turn off the ignition.
2. Models 320i, 323i, 328i: Remove the luggage compartment floor covering. Turn the clamps 90°with a screwdriver and remove the sheath.
3. The connector for the positive cable at the battery is covered with a bar. Throw her away.
4. Disconnect the negative first (-) -1- and then positive (+) -2- battery cables.
5 Models 320i, 323i, 328i: Turn away bolts of fastening -3- and remove a collar.
6. Models 316i, 318i: Turn away bolts of fastening -3- and remove a collar. Remove the cover for the positive connector -4- and the battery cover. 1 - negative cable.
7. Open the handle and remove the battery.
The battery contains poisonous components that must not be disposed of with household waste.
Installation
8. Models 320i, 323i, 328i: Install the battery so that the poles point towards the wing.
9. Models 316i, 318i: Install the battery so that the poles point in the direction of travel.
10. Models 316i, 318i: Install the battery cover.
11. Install and secure the clamp.
12. Fix on the poles positive (+), and then negative (-) cables.
Make sure the cables are connected correctly and the contacts are clean. High contact resistances lead, in particular during start-up, to overloading of electronic control devices and in extreme cases can lead to their destruction.
13. Insert the positive pole cover.
14. Models 320i, 323i, 328i: Insert the plastic shell into the side cover. Insert the clamps and secure them by turning 90°. Insert the luggage compartment floor covering.
15. Set the clock.
16. Initialize the sunroof sliding panel, refer to Section Replacing the Cabin Air Filter Element.
