Caring for interior upholstery and carpets (BMW 5 Series E28)

Floor mats and rugs should be brushed or vacuumed regularly to remove sand and dust. If heavily soiled, remove them from the vehicle, scrub them thoroughly and wet clean them with a sponge; dry them thoroughly before putting them back in their places in the passenger compartment. Clean the seat upholstery and interior trim panels by wiping with a damp cloth. If grease stains appear, especially noticeable on light-colored upholstery, carefully rub the stains with a soft nail brush using liquid detergent. Do not forget to keep the ceiling upholstery clean using the same methods. When using liquid detergents inside the passenger compartment, do not over-wet the surface being cleaned.

Moisture getting into the seams and padding material can cause stains, odors, and even rot.

If excess moisture accidentally gets into the interior, do not spare time and effort for thorough drying, especially if the interior is equipped with mats. Never leave electric heating devices in the interior to dry it.
