Removal and installation the oil pump (BMW 3 Series E21)
Removal
Unscrew the bolts securing the toothed pulley of the oil pump drive, having first removed the oil pan.
Bend back the retaining plates and remove the oil pump.
Remove the adjusting plates if necessary.
Installation

Replace the pressure relief valve sealing ring.
Install the oil pump, placing the oil pump drive chain tension adjusting plates between its housing and the cylinder block; in this case, the holes for the oil passage in the plates must coincide with the hole in the cylinder block.
Install the oil pump pulley and drive chain and tighten the pulley mounting bolts.
Check the tension of the oil pump drive chain, which should bend when pressed with your thumb.
If necessary, adjust the tension of the oil pump drive chain by selecting the thickness of the adjusting plates.
