Carburetor adjustment (BMW 3 Series E30)

Each carburetor is checked and adjusted at the factory. The factory setting should not be changed. Power loss and increased fuel consumption are most often caused by other reasons, among which driving style and traffic conditions play an important role. You should train yourself to limit yourself to idle speed adjustment. Correct idle speed adjustment is much more important than is commonly thought, because transient processes in the ranges up to medium engine speeds depend on it.

Caution: On vehicles equipped with a transistorized ignition system, certain precautions must be observed to avoid injury and damage to the transistorized ignition system (see the Ignition System section).

Seals can be removed with pliers or a screwdriver. For some seals, it is advisable to screw a self-tapping screw with a diameter of about 2 mm into the plastic cap, then pull the screw out with pliers together with the sealing cap. This destroys the seal. After adjustment, install new seals.
