Depending on the model, BNAV vehicles have a transistor ignition system (TSZ) or a parametric ignition system integrated into the Motronic system.
The ignition system consists of:
- Ignition coils.
- Spark plugs.
- Ignition distributor with inductive sensor and runner.
- TSZ switching unit.
On vehicles equipped with the Motronic system, the production of the ignition spark is determined by the following elements:
- Ignition distributor.
- Position sensors.
- DME control unit (OME - digital engine management system Motronic).

The switching unit board of the transistor ignition system also serves as a heat sink. Before installing the switching unit of the transistor ignition system, the switching unit board and the wheel arch area should be thoroughly cleaned and coated with heat-conducting paste to ensure good heat dissipation.
Caution: The heat generated during operation of the unit is dissipated to the body, therefore it is prohibited to start the engine if the switching unit is not secured. This also applies to the DME control unit.
