Glass and headlight cleaning system (BMW 3 Series E36)

The front windshield wiper drive is located in the water collection box under the windshield. Before removing it, you must remove the heater fan. The windshield wiper, as well as the washer, are controlled by electronic modules depending on the speed of movement.

When the vehicle stops, the windshield wiper switches to interval mode.

As the speed increases, the glass cleaning intervals become shorter.

A high-pressure headlight washer for all front headlights is installed as special equipment. When the washer and exterior lighting are switched on, each headlight is washed from a separate nozzle. In this case, each nozzle extends by 40 mm and operates under a pressure of about 2.5 bar. For better cleaning, the water for the windshield washer is mixed with a cleaning concentrate from a separate tank. In combination with the headlight cleaning device, the time interval of the windshield wiper can be set continuously from 3 to 30 seconds. When the car stops, the set interval value is doubled.

Note: If the wiper motor or switch fails, the control circuit automatically switches off the interval mode and the first speed of windshield cleaning.
