Checking and replacing the washer pump (BMW 3 Series E36)
Examination
Disconnect the connector from the pump.
Connect a voltmeter to the connector contacts. Turn on the ignition and operate the washer lever. The voltmeter should show battery voltage (12 volts), otherwise you should check the fuse. This check can also be done with a portable lamp.
Replacement
Disconnect the connector from the pump.
Remove the pump and tank and close the hole in the tank with your finger
Insert the new pump, some liquid will flow out.
Insert the tank and tighten the nut.
Connect the hoses.
Connect the connector.
If necessary, add water to the tank.
Check the operation of the windshield washer pump.
