Checking and replacing the washer pump (BMW 5 Series E34)

Examination

Turn on the ignition and operate the washer lever. If water is not sprayed onto the windshield, remove the connector.

Connect a voltmeter to the connector contacts.

Turn on the ignition and operate the washer lever. The voltmeter should show battery voltage (12 volts), otherwise check the fuse.

If the fuse is normal, check the wiring according to the electrical diagram and eliminate the defect

Connect the connector and operate the washer lever. If the pump does not work, although there is voltage, replace the pump.

Replacement

Disconnect connector 1.

Remove the windshield washer reservoir by disconnecting the hose and plugging them. Unscrew the plastic nut 2 and pull the reservoir out of the bracket.

Note: When replacing, prepare a new pump.

Remove the pump and tank and close the hole in the tank with your finger.

Insert the new pump, some liquid will flow out.

Insert the tank and tighten the nut.

Connect the hoses.

Connect the connector.

Check the operation of the windshield washer pump.
