Clutch pedal — removal and installation (BMW 3 Series E46)

Note: You will need a new master cylinder self-locking nut for installation.

Removal

1. In the car interior, remove the lower trim panel on the driver's side, releasing it from the clips and screws (see chapter 11).

2. Remove the clutch pedal switch (if it exists). To do this, pull out the red sleeve to its full length, then squeeze the two clamps and remove the switch from the bracket.

3. Squeeze the two halves of the retainer and remove the master cylinder push rod pin from the clutch pedal (see fig. 5.5).

4. Using pliers, carefully remove the return spring from the clutch pedal.

5. Unscrew the two plastic nuts and move the anti-theft alarm control unit to the side.

6. Remove the pedal mounting clip from the axle. Then slide the pedal to the right and remove it from the axle. Remove the bushings (Fig. 7.6).

Installation

7. Before installing the pedal on the axle, check the condition of the bushings and, if necessary, replace them. Apply a little grease to the bushings.

8. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Before installing the switch, make sure that the switch pusher is fully extended.
