Replacing the clutch pedal (BMW X5 E53)

The clutch pedal must be removed without removing its mounting bracket in the following order.

Disconnect the "–" terminal from the battery and remove the left lower trim panel of the pedal mechanism from under the steering column.

Remove the reinforcing plate and switch block. Press the clutch pedal and secure it with the stop.

Disconnect the SS (1, Fig. 7.31), pull the stop (3) out to the end in the direction indicated by the arrow. Squeeze both clamps at the front and remove the switch (2) by moving it backwards in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Remove the stop and slowly return the clutch pedal to its original position. Remove the bracket (6, see Fig. 7.4) and remove the pin (5) of the master cylinder drive. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder drive from the pedal lever (1).



Caution! Do not disconnect the pressure line from the clutch master cylinder.


Secure the clutch master cylinder to the footwell.

Remove the retainer (12) of the pin (11) of the return spring (9) of the pedal and remove the pin (11).

Remove the flat guard (4) from the clutch pedal lever (1) and remove it.

The installation of the clutch pedal lever should be carried out in the reverse order, in which case it will be necessary to replace the bushings (3) of the pedal suspension joint.

Lightly lubricate the bushings (3) of the hinge and the axle (14) on the pedal bracket (15) with special BMW grease or grease such as Renocal FN 745. Glissando VW 745.

Make sure that the master cylinder feed hose does not come into contact with any parts of the pedal bracket.
