Replacing the clutch release bearing (BMW 5 Series E12)
To perform this operation, it is necessary to remove the gearbox.
Remove the clutch release fork retaining spring.
Remove the clutch release bearing assembly with the fork by moving it forward inside the housing.
Remove the clutch release bearing from the fork, which is held at the ends of the fork by pressure springs.
Check the height "H" (see photo) of the clutch release bearing, which should be within 47.5±0.4 mm.
Clean the parts and check their condition. Lubricate the contact surfaces of the clutch release bearing with the fork with long-lasting grease such as Molykote Longterm 2, put grease into the inner groove of the clutch release bearing.
Install the fork assembly with the clutch release bearing into place in the clutch housing, install the fork retaining spring.
Remove the lower clutch housing cover and the clutch housing.
Disconnect the clutch release fork and bearing retaining spring and remove the fork assembly with the bearing.
Check the height "H" of the clutch release bearing, which should be within 52.0±0.5 mm.
Lubricate the contact surfaces of the fork with the clutch release bearing and the fork support bushings.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, ensuring the correct position of the clutch release fork spring.

Remove the lower clutch housing cover and the clutch housing.
Disconnect the clutch release fork and bearing retaining spring and remove the fork assembly with the bearing.
Check the height "H" of the clutch release bearing, which should be within 52.0±0.5 mm.
Lubricate the contact surfaces of the fork with the clutch release bearing and the fork support bushings.
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal, ensuring the correct position of the clutch release fork spring.
