Checking wheel bearing play (BMW 5 Series E34)

Raise the front of the car.

Pull the upper side of the wheel outward with one hand, while pressing the lower side of the wheel inward with the other hand. Then press the upper side of the wheel inward and pull the lower side outward. If the wheel is noticeably loose, the front wheel bearing has increased play. Repeat this process several times. There should be no noticeable play.

Check on another wheel and replace the damaged bearing if necessary.

Lower the car.
