Unscrew the oil filter. There is a special tool for this, for example, from HAZET2169. You can also insert a sharp screwdriver into the oil filter from the side. When unscrewing, oil flows out - place a container underneath.

Lubricate the oil filter flange with fuel.

Clean the oil filter flange with fuel.

Lightly lubricate the rubber sealing ring of the oil filter with engine oil.

Caution: Observe the instructions on the fuel filter housing.


Tighten the new oil filter by hand.

Diesel engine 524td: Remove two bolts at location 1. On other engines, remove one bolt in the middle of the oil filter cover.



Remove filter cover 2 with sealing ring.

Remove filter element 3. Wipe off any dripping oil with a rag.

Clean the oil filter flange with fuel.

Lightly lubricate the rubber sealing ring of the oil filter with engine oil.

Caution: Observe the instructions on the fuel filter housing.


Insert the new filter element into the oil filter housing.

Clean the oil filter cover. Replace the rubber sealing rings "arrows" of the central bolt and cover.

Place the filter cover with the return tube on top and press it down. The return tube enters the corresponding hole in the bottom of the filter.

Insert the central bolt, on a diesel engine there are two bolts, screw it in and tighten it to 20 Nm.
