Replacing the fine air filter (BMW 5 Series E39)

No special tool required.

Parts required for replacement:

• replacement filter element.

Note: Reduced air flow usually requires premature filter replacement; in all other cases, the filter should be replaced as part of the maintenance.

Two fine filters are located in the engine compartment on the left and right.

Removal

Open the engine compartment hood.



Move the clamp forward and open the fine air filter cover.



Remove the replacement filter element.



Clean the filter housing "1" and drain hole "2".

Installation

Insert a new filter element.

Place the lid on and secure it.

Replace the filter element on the other side of the compartment in a similar manner.

Close the engine compartment hood.
