Removal and installation the ignition distributor (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Remove the distributor cap.

Disconnect the low voltage wire and vacuum hoses from the ignition distributor.

Remove the rotor and protective screen.

Install the rotor.

Turn the crankshaft to the position corresponding to the TDC of the 1st cylinder piston. In this case, the mark "FROM" ("TDC") on the torsional vibration damper must be against the setting tide on the protective cover of the gear belt, and the mark on the rotor must coincide with the mark on the ignition distributor housing.

Loosen the mounting bolt, remove the mounting bracket and take out the ignition distributor.

Installation

Turn the ignition distributor rotor clockwise so that the distance between it and the mark on the ignition distributor housing is approximately 25 mm.

Without changing the position of the rotor, engage the distributor shaft gear with the intermediate shaft gear.

Adjust the ignition timing.
