Replacing the V-belt of the air conditioning compressor (all models) (BMW 3 Series E36)

The air conditioning compressor is driven by a wide V-belt with automatic tensioning.



Insert a hexagon socket head cap screw wrench into the tension roller bolt. Slowly turn clockwise to compress the hydraulic tensioner "1". Remove the ribbed V-belt.

Apply a new V-ribbed belt according to the diagram shown, moving the tension roller all the way to the right, as when removing. Pay attention to the position of the grooves on the pulleys.

Release the tension roller by releasing the Allen key. The tension is determined by the tensioner and is not adjustable.
