Removal and installation the air conditioning compressor (BMW 7 Series E38)

1. Remove the accessory protection panel.

2. Drain the refrigerant, replace the desiccant tank if necessary.

3. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt (see chapter Engine).

Models with M51 and M52 engines

1. Remove the screws and disconnect the suction and discharge pipes.





2. Loosen the bolts, disconnect the connector and remove the compressor by moving it upwards (models with M51 engine) or down (models with M52 engine).



3. Installation is carried out in reverse order.

Models with engines other than M51 and M52

1. On models with an engine M57 remove the molded hose between the MAF sensor and the turbocharger.

2. On models with engines M60, M62 (M67, M73) remove the air cleaner housing (right).



3. Disconnect the connector, remove the screws and disconnect the suction and return pipes.

Replace the sealing rings when installing.

4. When working on a model with an engine M67 follow the steps described in paragraphs c 3 to 7. Otherwise, go to paragraph 10.



5. Disconnect the connector (1), unscrew the screw (2) of the oil line holder and screws (3). Carefully pull down and push aside the power steering pump (4), avoiding deformation of the oil lines connected to the pump (4).





6. Loosen the clamps (1 and 2), disconnect the lower pressure hose (3) with the pressure pipe (4) from the intercooler in the direction shown by the arrow. Disconnect the pressure pipe (4) from the upper pressure hose (5) in the direction shown by the arrow and remove it.



7. Loosen the bolt (1) and disconnect the pipe (2) from the turbocharger (3) in the direction indicated by the arrow.

When installing, check the condition of the internal sealing ring between the tube (2) and the turbocharger (3) and replace it if necessary.

8. Disconnect the ventilation hose (1). Unscrew the screw (2) and remove the pipe (3) by moving it upwards.





9. Loosen the screws (1) and remove the clamp (2) in the direction of the arrow. Loosen the screw (3) and remove the mounting plate (4).



10. While holding the compressor, unscrew its mounting bolts and remove the air conditioning compressor.



11. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
