Removal and installation the contact ignition distributor (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Disconnect the spark plug wires and remove the distributor cap.

Turn the crankshaft to the position corresponding to the TDC of the compression stroke in the 1st cylinder, simultaneously aligning the mark on the rotor with the mark on the distributor housing. In this case, the TDC mark "OT" on the flywheel should be visible in the clutch housing hatch.



Disconnect the vacuum hoses and low voltage wire from the distributor.



Remove the ignition distributor by unscrewing the flange mounting bolt.

Installation

Install the ignition distributor into the socket, aligning the mark on the rotor with the mark on the distributor body.

Connect the low voltage wire to the distributor and turn the distributor flange mounting bolt by hand.



Replace the distributor cap and connect the spark plug wires to it.

Set the ignition timing.
