Replacing incandescent lamps (BMW 5 Series E34)
Headlights
Open the hood of the engine compartment, The low beam and parking or parking lights are in the outer headlights. The high beam lights are in the inner headlights. The description applies to all lights.
Turn off the switch of the corresponding lamp or disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Remove the plastic cover from the back of the headlight. To do this, turn the rotary locks 90° to the left with a screwdriver.
Note: On the left headlight, first separate the air duct from the casing.

Turn the plastic cap to the left and remove it with the connector.

Disconnect the clamp 1 and remove the defective lamp.
Turn the parking light or side light bulb 2 to the left with a light press and pull it out of the reflector.
Insert the incandescent lamp so that the protrusions enter the corresponding cutouts in the housing. Snap the clamping bracket into place.
Insert the parking light bulb into the reflector and secure by turning it to the right.
Place the cover on and secure it by turning it to the right.
Caution: To prevent water from entering through the cover, ensure that it is secured with all three latches of the bayonet lock.
Connect and snap the connector into place.
Place the plastic cover and secure it with two locks.
Fog lights

From the bottom of the car, turn the cover to the left and remove it from the rear of the headlight.
If you need to replace the lamp from the front side, remove the trim from the bumper next to the headlight and unscrew the screw located under the trim. Pull out the lamp with the housing.
Disconnect the wire clip, replace the halogen lamp.
Connect the wire bracket, install the housing.
When replacing, insert the lamp and tighten it.
Front direction indicators
Remove the headlight cover.

The lamp can be replaced without removing the turn signal, which is shown in the photo for clarity only.
Squeeze the chuck bars and remove the chuck.
Press lightly on the bulb, turn it to the left and pull it out.
Insert the lamp into the socket, press it down, turn it to the right and click it into place.
Insert and snap the cartridge into place.

Rear lights
1 Rear side light
2 Stop signal
3 Direction indicator
4 Reversing light
5 Rear fog light
Open the luggage compartment.

Fold back the floor mat. Turn the lock 90° and lift the side trim slightly.

While pressing lightly, turn to the left and remove the corresponding cartridge.

Press lightly on the defective bulb, turn it to the left and pull it out.
Press lightly on the bulb, turn it to the right and insert it.
Insert the cartridge and turn it to the right.
The bulbs in the tailgate lights are replaced in the same way.
License plate light

Remove two screws from the diffuser and remove the diffuser with the gasket.
Remove the defective spotlight.
Check the spring properties of the contacts, the spotlight should sit tightly in the contacts. If necessary, bend the contacts.
Check the integrity and absence of cracks in the gasket; if necessary, replace the gasket.
Install the diffuser on two screws, correctly installing the gasket.
Interior light
Press the interior light with a screwdriver, replace the spotlight. If necessary, bend the contacts.
Insert the interior light into the cutout in the ceiling.
Interior, luggage compartment and engine compartment lights
Press out the luggage compartment light with a screwdriver, replace the spotlight. If necessary, bend the contacts.
Only for reading lamp after removing the diffuser: Turn the lamp to the left with light pressure and replace.
Insert and snap the diffuser into place.
Connect the ground wire to the battery. Turn on the lamp and check the operation.
