Removal and installation headlights (BMW 5 Series E34)

So-called ellipsoid headlights are installed as low beam headlights and fog lights. In an ellipsoid headlight, a collecting lens is installed in front of the incandescent lamp, focusing the light of the lamp.

The advantages of elliptical headlights are:

• small diameter headlight with strong headlight network;
• uniform illumination of the road, especially at a distance of up to 50 meters;
• reduction of diffuse light, thereby reducing one's own blindness in bad weather conditions and less blinding of oncoming traffic.

Removal

Open the engine compartment hood.

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.



Remove the plastic cover from the rear of the headlight. To do this, turn the rotary locks 1 90° to the left.

Attention: On the left headlight, first disconnect the air duct to the generator from the headlight housing.

Turn the headlight housing to the left and remove it.





Unscrew the front decorative grille of the "arrow" headlight and remove it.



Unscrew the three screws and remove the headlight with the bracket.

Removal the headlight insert

Remove the incandescent bulbs.



Heat the headlight contour 3 plastic bushings with a hair dryer and remove the reflector. The figure shows the bushings of the left high beam headlight.



Remove the headlight from the bracket.

Installation

Place the plastic bushings on the ball joints on the headlight. Then press and snap the headlight bracket into the plastic clips.

Secure the bracket and headlights to the body with three screws.

Install the headlight bulbs and headlight housing.

Insert the headlight into the bracket.

Connect the ground wire to the battery.

Adjust the headlights.

Install decorative grille.
