Removal and installation headlights (BMW 3 Series E30)

Removal

Open the engine compartment hood.

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.



Remove the plastic cover from the back of the headlight. To do this, turn the rotary locks (arrows) 90° to the left.

Remove the rubber cap from the connector, then remove the connector.

Remove the front headlight grille (see section "Removal and installation the decorative headlight grille").



Unscrew 3 screws and remove the headlight with the bracket.

Removal the headlight insert

Remove the incandescent bulbs.



Models produced before August 1987: turn the joint "1" by ¼ turn. Disconnect the spring "2". Loosen the screws for adjusting the headlight height "3" and horizontally "4".



Models produced since September 1987: Use a hair dryer to heat up and lift up the 3 plastic clips around the circumference of the headlight.

Remove the headlight from the bracket. If necessary, separate the headlight trim ring.

Installation

If it was removed, put the decorative ring of the headlight back on.

Insert the bracket.

Models produced before August 1987: secure the headlight insert with the hinge "1". Connect the spring "2". Screw in the headlight adjustment screws in height "3" and in the horizontal plane "4".

Models produced since September 1987: Place the plastic clips on the ball joints. Then press and snap the headlight bracket into the plastic clips.

Secure the headlight bracket to the body with 3 screws.

Install headlight bulbs.

Adjust the headlights.

Install the headlight cover. The cover at the bottom should fit into the holes in the body.
