Removal and installation of headlights and their components (BMW 7 Series E38)

The following describes only the removal. Installation is done in reverse order.

Headlights

1. Remove the direction indicator (see section Removal and installation of other outdoor lighting devices).



2. Lift the latch and disconnect the connector.



3. Press the fasteners, move the decorative strip towards the central grille, hook it and remove it.



4. Move the latches inward and unscrew the bolts.





5. Loosen the nuts (1), remove the bolts (2) and loosen the adjusting nuts (3)

6. Remove the headlight by pulling it towards you.

7. After installation, adjust the headlight (see section Lighting fixtures).

Diffuser and its protective glass

1. Remove the headlight.



2. Press the clamps and remove the sealing gasket.



3. Loosen the screws and remove the holder by pulling it towards you.





4. Press the upper and lower latches and remove the protective glass of the diffuser.



5. Remove the screws and remove the diffuser with the frame.

Replacing the control unit and ignition unit of the left xenon headlight

1. Remove the headlight.

2. Release the clamp and remove the lamp cover.



3. When removing the control unit, squeeze the left and right clamps and pull out the control unit connector.





4. Remove the clamp (1), disconnect the connector (2), unscrew the screws (3) and remove the ignition unit.



5. Unscrew the screws and remove the cover together with the control unit.
