Maintenance intervals on BMW vehicles are determined by the microprocessor depending on the operating conditions and are displayed to the driver on the dashboard on the maintenance interval indicator. The service interval indicator has five green, one yellow and one red LEDs. Additionally, messages can be displayed "Oilservice", "Inspection", as well as clock symbols (for annual control). The fewer green LEDs that light up after the ignition is switched on, the less time remains until the next service. If the yellow LED lights up along with one of the messages, this is a reminder to carry out the appropriate form of scheduled maintenance. At the same time, there are different forms of operational service (Change of oil) and routine maintenance TO-1 (Inspection I) and TO-2 (Inspektion II) or yearly maintenance (message lights up "Inspection" along with the clock symbol. When the maintenance period is exceeded, the red LED lights up.
In addition to the mileage, the operating conditions of the vehicle, such as short distances or long distances, or the driver's driving style, are at the heart of the determination of maintenance cycles by the microprocessor.
At the service station, the corresponding display of oil change or service intervals is reset to zero after service work has been carried out. To reset the display, a special expensive key is required, which is sold at BMW service stations. BMW-licensed workshops are obliged to reset the service interval indicator at the customer's request, free of charge, even after self-service. The interval indicator can also be reset with a self-made key.
If you do not perform oil changes or maintenance by following the service interval indicator, the intervals below should be followed.
