Automatic transmission (BMW 5 Series E34)

At the customer's request, BMW models can be equipped with an automatic transmission. Depending on the design, the automatic transmission provides automatic shifting in four or five forward gear ranges.

To ensure fast acceleration, for example when overtaking, the automatic transmission has a so-called kickdown switch, which is activated when the gas pedal is fully pressed. The kickdown effect ensures either a delay in the transmission in a higher gear or a shift from a higher to one of the lower gears.

The condition for the possibility of assessing the operation of the automatic transmission and troubleshooting is the presence of sufficient professional experience, therefore, if you suspect that the automatic transmission is not operating normally, you should immediately contact a service station. The "Maintenance" section only describes simple checks.
